Tumut Shire Councils Green Team

Council’s Green Team is a new team consisting of representative staff from each department within Council. The concept is that rather than placing reliance and expectations solely on Council’s Environmental Officer, that other staff may offer ideas and suggestions regarding Council operations and how to minimise the waste of resources burdening the natural environment.

The team consists of members each representing a different department within Council. The team is diverse and offers ideas, considerations, and solutions that have key aspects addressed before implementation.

The creation of the team has also given Council Officers a greater appreciation for each other’s specialised line of work considering each aspect attributed to the success of an idea are taken into account by the members.

The team looks at all information made available that paint a picture of Council’s environmental standing, especially consumption data whether it be electricity, fuel or paper and tries to come up with ways of decreasing the use without being too demanding.

The team is still relatively new, however with a dedicated group of members, it shouldn’t take longer to notice the positive effects brought upon by this initiative.
